“Uprooted – (Hi)Stories of Stolen Children in WWII and Beyond” is an engaging and immersive educational programme that delves into the harrowing history of children forcibly abducted from their families during times of conflict. The programme started with a strong focus on children who were stolen from German-occupied parts of countries such as Poland, the Czech Republic and Ukraine during World War II and taken back to Germany where they were subjected to forced “Aryanisation”. Now Uprooted is broadening the scope of the programme to take a closer look at the fates of children in other conflicts and across different countries.
This Learning Platform was set up as part of the “Uprooted – (Hi)Stories of Stolen Children during World War II” project. The project took place during 2022 and included the following elements:

THE UPROOTED TRAINING GATHERED 25 PARTICIPANTS FROM 16 COUNTRIES. This edition investigated the realities of life for children during the German invasion of Greece in WWII. Moreover, we explored the fate of stolen children during the Greek Civil War, between 1946 and 1949. By taking a closer look at the histories of children experiencing WWII and the Greek Civil War, we also wanted to confront the political ideologies that shaped those times.
During this training we introduced the KALEIDOSCOPE methodology as a tool for teachers and youth workers. We gave the participants a small simulation of how it works.
