A storytelling initiative for Ukrainian and Polish youth to process war’s impact creatively. The Kaleidoscope of Recovery is a 6-month project supporting young people from Ukraine and Poland in processing war-related challenges through creative storytelling. Using a “do no harm” approach, the project fosters resilience, identity exploration, and European solidarity. Through the methodology, participants engage in 3 storytelling phases: Written Stories – Expressing experiences of resilience and belonging. Visual Interpretations – Transforming stories into illustrations and comics. Audio-Visual – Creating videos or podcasts inspired by the narratives. The project empowers youth (15-18) affected by war, encouraging intercultural dialogue and creative expression. It includes workshops, online exchanges, and a final showcase, building emotional recovery and mutual understanding. Expected outcomes include increased resilience, a collection of multi-format narratives, and strengthened Polish-Ukrainian youth connections. Partnering with youth organisations, artists, and educators, the project ensures sustainable impact by training youth to replicate the method. This initiative offers a vital platform for storytelling, healing, and fostering European values amidst crisis.
Stories help us make sense of the world. For young people affected by war, storytelling can be a safe and creative way to process complex emotions, explore their identities, and find strength in their experiences. By sharing and listening, participants learn that their voices matter and that they are not alone in their journey.
Over six months, youth from Ukraine and Poland take part in a series of interactive workshops, online exchanges, and collaborative creative sessions. Guided by experienced facilitators, artists, and youth workers, they experiment with different formats — writing, visual arts, and audio-visual production — to tell their stories in ways that feel authentic and empowering.
The Kaleidoscope of Recovery doesn’t end with the final showcase. By training young people to use the storytelling methodology themselves, the project creates a ripple effect. Participants become peer facilitators, bringing the tools of creativity, empathy, and resilience back to their schools, communities, and youth groups.
This initiative is more than an artistic project — it’s a space where young Ukrainians and Poles can meet, connect, and understand each other’s realities. Together, they build a shared language of hope, solidarity, and European values that will continue to grow beyond the project.
The training funded by the INTERNATIONAL VISEGRAD FUND took place in Lublin, Poland 18-22nd August 2025.
Young people from Ukraine and Poland joined together to learn all about the Kaleidoscope method - how it can give young people a platform and a voice where war and conflict has taken theirs away.
